Interpol has created a cryptocurrency crime unit
The team, based in Singapore, will assist law enforcement agencies in different countries in investigations related to digital assets
Interpol has created a specialized unit that will combat crimes related to cryptocurrency and other virtual assets, Business-Standard reports. The creation of the unit was announced by International Police Secretary General Jurgen Stock at a press conference before the 90th Interpol General Assembly, which takes place in New Delhi from Oct. 18 to 21.
The main problem that law enforcement agencies in different countries face in their investigations, the head of Interpol called the lack of a legal framework with regard to assets such as bitcoin and Ethereum. The new team formed in Singapore will help fight crimes in this area in different countries. Interpol currently has more than 190 participating states.
Interpol has already helped investigate cryptocurrency crimes on numerous occasions.
