Coinbase head to discuss cryptocurrency regulation with congressmen
The meeting will take place behind closed doors on the morning of July 19, representatives of the Democratic caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives said
The head of cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase Brian Armstrong will meet with congressmen from the Democratic Party of the United States behind closed doors on the morning of July 19, according to Bloomberg.
Armstrong will privately discuss with representatives of the "New Democratic Coalition" (a faction of Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives, 94 seats) laws in the field of digital assets and related issues, including taxes, national security, and privacy.
The head of Coinbase has led a campaign in Washington aimed at introducing clearer rules to regulate digital assets. The largest cryptocurrency exchange in the U.S. has called on lawmakers to pass two documents that would provide clearer guidance on how cryptocurrencies can register with regulators.
U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler said earlier that the regulator has already proposed and adopted some rules regarding the activities of broker-dealers in the crypto market, as well as on the protection of users' assets. But crypto regulation issues will be raised by the commission in the future.
